Heroes To Home Program
In June 2012, Dollar Store Services announced the partnership with the Veterans Business Resource Center, a community-based economic development center that assists Veterans of the United States military in transitioning their military skills into small business and self-employment opportunities. Over the past year, this partnership has opened the opportunity for Veterans and Active Duty Military men and women to open up stores.
The Veteran Business Resource Center’s Hero To Home Program provides assistance and guidance to military members, their families and Veterans seeking to build small business clientele. They also assess skills and connect Veterans to alternative employment opportunities due to job elimination while deployed and/or identify replacement work that may be needed due to conditions which make it impossible to return to previous employment.
A strong Partnership Between Veterans and DSS
According to many Veteran program statistics, it takes an average of 6 months to actively participate in the transition from military to civilian workforce. This program helps expedite that process by providing mentoring, counseling and training. It also helps to identify opportunities specifically tailored for an individual Veteran and provides support through the career transition process.
Veterans can own their very own dollar store, mailbox store, party store, fitness center, teen store, clothing store, or yogurt store. Each Veteran will be an independent store owner and keep 100% of what they earn, and there are never any franchise fees or royalties.
The Veteran is provided with a team of experts that will walk them through every step of obtaining their business. Dollar Store Services provides financing assistance, site location, negotiation of the lease, complete store build-out, comprehensive training, a wholesale supply network, ongoing assistance and training for the lifetime of the store and a special discount for Veterans. Since the partnership began, Dollar Store Services has assisted 18 veterans with opening their actual stores and continues to assist others.
